Schedule Backup

  • The schedule function of Sprite Backup allows you to create automated daily, weekly or one-time scheduled backup operations at the designated time and date.
  • Sprite Backup will automatically leave the device in the same state as it was before the schedule operation started. If the device was in an OFF state it will automatically turn the device off, if the device was ON it will leave the device ON. The schedule function works in the background when PIN or SIM lock is enable on the device.
  • Once: Allows you to perform only one schedule operation.
  • Daily: Configures weekly backups at the designated time.
  • Weekly: Configures weekly backups at the specified day and time.

Backup Options - General

  • Choosing ‘Compress Backup’ will cause new backup files to be compressed.
  • Choosing ‘Name Backup Files Automatically’ will cause Sprite Backup to generate a name for the backup based on the date e.g. ‘Backup_yyyy_mm_dd.pbf’. If this option is not selected, the default backup name will be the name of the last created backup file, or ‘backup.pbf’ if no backups have been created.
  • Choosing ‘Create self-restoring Backup Files’ - The backup files created using this option are slightly larger but are recommended because they can restore your device after a complete system wipe without having to be re-install Sprite Backup. If you have selected the ?Create self-restoring backup files’ option your backup files will have the extension ?.exe’ at the end of the file name - this setting is selected by default.
  • Choosing ‘ Exclude Storage Cards’ will exclude all files located on storage cards for all your backup files.

Backup File Encryption

  • Enabling ‘Encrypt Backup’ will cause new backup files
to be password protected. You will be prompted for a password when you
create a new backup file manually. The password entered must be an alphanumeric
string, minimum of 6 digits, maximum of 15. On restore you will be asked
to enter the same password that was entered when creating the backup
file. If the password is not the same the file will not be restored.
  • The ‘Master Password’ feature allows
you to set a common password for all your backup operations. Once you
set your Master Password’ Sprite Backup will use this password
for ALL manual or schedule backup operations.

Backup Options - General

  • Here you can specify if you wish to stop processes before backup
  • Create Log files
  • Skip Previews Backup Files
  • Create Stand-alone restores
  • SPB Backup automatically names files using a date stamp.
  • SPB Backup does not offer options to exclude Storage
    Card.

File Encryption and Compression

  • Data Compression and Encryption Options Dialog
To encrypt your data , provide a password and confirm it, This password
will be asked for when restoring your backup.
  • If you choose to compress your data, Spb Backup will use
ZIP archiving to reduce the backup file size (it will be approximately
half the size of an uncompressed file). The file size is dependant on
the real device storage space used

File Exclusion Rules

  • Use these rules to specify files, file types and folders to be excluded
from all backups, including Scheduled Backups. This can be a useful way
to reduce backup file size. The items in the Exclusion List will appear
unchecked in the Backup data selection screen but can be manually overwritten.

  • You can add custom exclusion rules by clicking on the Add button (’+')
    button.

  • Selecting ‘Sprite Backup Files’ will exclude all Sprite Backup files
    from all backup operations.
  • Selecting ‘Programs (*.EXE, *.DLL)’ will exclude the files most commonly
    associated with installed programs.
  • Selecting ‘Exclude Temporary Internet Files’ will exclude all your
temporary Internet files including cookies, history and cache files.

File Exclusion Rules

  • This functionality is not available in SPB Backup.
  •

Restore Options

  • ‘Automatic Menu Handling’ By default Sprite Backup automatically corrects any problems when restoring the Start Menu from a backup file. This is particularly relevant when menus have been customized or when you are restoring to a different device where some menu items may no longer be valid.
  • The ‘Restore Security Settings‘ This allows Sprite Backup to restore the WM6 storage card encryption keys so that all data is available after a restore. Only Sprite Backup provides this capability. Pin lock and other security settings on your device are also controlled by this option.
  • ‘Merge’ Sprite Backup will merge the registry of the device with the registry stored in the backup file.
  • If you select ‘Replace‘ Sprite Backup will delete the existing registry and replace it with the registry stored in the backup file.

Restore Options

  • SPB Backup does not provide any options for managing restore operations.
  • This prevents SPB from supporting restoration of data to a replacement device that is not the exact same model and ROM version.

Upgrade Mode Restore Operations

  • Sprite Backup uses different Restore modes depending on the change in device or Operating System.
  • ROM: Use this option to perform restore operations between the same devices with different ROM revisions. For example: restoring from a KJAM ROM 2.16.9 to a KJAM AKU2 ROM version.
  • Device: Use this option when you wish to restore across devices and ROM versions. For example: When restoring a backup file created on a WM2005 KJAM device onto a WM 2006 JAZJAR device.
  • Safe: If your device does not boot after performing a ‘ROM Upgrade’ or ‘Device Upgrade’ restore use the ‘Safe Upgrade’ operation.
  • Choosing ‘Prompt on upgrade’ will cause Sprite Backup to prompt you every time that a restore operation is performed between different ROM versions or devices. When the upgrade mode prompt appears you will need to select the type of upgrade that you wish to apply to the restore operation.

Restore Options

  • SPB Backup does support restoring after a ROM upgrade or if you want to restore to a device that is not identical to that on which the backup file was created.

Backup File History

  • Operation summaries are created whenever you backup or restore. You can view reports from this screen.
  • Backup reports occupy very little storage space, but can be manually deleted. Sprite Backup will begin automatically deleting old backup reports after 30 have been created.

Backup File History

  • SPB Backup does not have any equivalent functionality.

Device and SIM Lock Handling

  • Device Lock is automatically handled by Sprite Backup for scheduled backups.
  • For interactive backups, the user must unlock tho device.
  • Enabling the ‘SIM Lock ’ function allows Sprite Backup to turn on your phone after a backup operation has completed. Without this option, after a reboot, you must enter the SIM Lock password in order to be able to make and receive voice and data connections. This can be inconvenient, especially for scheduled backups when you may not be aware that your phone connectivity has been interrupted.

Device and SIM Lock Handling

  • Device Lock is automatically handled by SPB Backup for scheduled backups.
  • SPB Backup does not support automatic SIM lock handling. This means that your phone will not receive calls, messages or email after a scheduled backup until you enter the SIM lock code.

Desktop Companions

Sprite Explorer

  • Sprite Explorer provides users with the flexibility of viewing, browsing and extracting to PC or device files and directories from a backup file.
  • Supports Drag and Drop for easy extraction. No need to unpack the whole file.
  • Sprite Explorer allows you to Open files and directories stored in backup files directly on your PC without having to save or unpack the file.
  • Sprite Explorer is included both version (Full and Lite) of Sprite Backup Version 6. For earlier versions, Sprite Explorer can be downloaded separately.

SPB Backup Unpack

  • Spb Backup Unpack tool is a desktop PC program for extracting files, registry and databases information from backup files created by Spb Backup. The backup file contents will be unpacked into the specified folder.
  • The registry information will be represented as a .reg file.
  • Databases will be represented with text files.
  • With this tool you can unpack your backup files to your PC and from there you can manually transfer them to the device. It does not allow unpacking directly to your device.
  • SPB Unpack tool is distributed as a separate installer.
