How do I install a language

Making Sprite Backup to display in your own language is simple. Is a copy/paste operation that will take you less than 2 minutes.

By default Sprite Backup and Sprite Backup Manager are displayed English. But, for example, if your ROM is Japanese (device and/or PC) and Sprite Backup finds the expected resource files with the matching language ID (0411); Sprite Backup will load the strings from this localized resource files and will be displayed in this language. It is the same for the help files on the PC and Device.

Note: To display Sprite Backup in any of the supported languages, you will need to have your PC and Device in that language. For our example below we use ‘XXXX’ to replace the language ID, please do not change or edit any part of the file names.

Where should I copy those files?

PC side:
‘PC Help file’ and ‘PC resource file’ should go into your PC installation folder. By default it is “C:\Program Files\Sprite Software\Sprite Backup”. After downloading the files in your required language you will need to copy “spriteservice.exe.XXXX.mui” and “spriteservice.exe.XXXX.mui” and paste it to is “C:\Program Files\Sprite Software\Sprite Backup”. Once this files have been copied you can start Sprite Backup Manger and it should display in the selected language.

Device side:
‘Device Help file’ should go into “\Windows” folder. Copy and paste “spritebackup.htm.XXXX.htm” into the Windows Folder of your device.
‘Device resource file’ should go into your device installation folder. By default it is “\Program Files\Sprite Backup”. Copy and paste spriteservice.exe.XXXX.mui into “\Program Files\Sprite Backup”.

What should I do if want to load a language that is not the default ROM language?

If you want the application to load a specific language whatever the ROM language you have. You can either:

1 - Select the language you want in “Settings->System->Regional Settings”, and you device configuration and language ID will change according to the new language selected OR

2 - Rename the files above with language ID “0800” instead of the actual “XXXX”. This will “force” the application to load the resource/help files with this code.

However, be aware that all devices are not able to display all languages. E.g. some devices might not display correctly Japanese characters and if you load the Japanese files, you will see “invalid” characters instead of the expected Japanese characters.
In this case do not use this language for your device.
